Do I need a Shopify SEO app?

Not always. Most fixes are made in the theme code and the content, and every app adds code that can slow the store. If you already use an SEO app, we set it up properly; if a fix can be done without one, we do that instead.

Can you fix duplicate product URLs on Shopify?

Yes. We edit the theme so collection pages link to /products/ URLs instead of /collections/…/products/ URLs, and check that every product page has the right canonical tag.

Which WordPress SEO plugin should I use?

Yoast and Rank Math are both good. What matters more is using only one, configuring it properly (especially which archives to index), and writing good content. We set up whichever you already use.

Shopify and WordPress both work well for SEO, but each has known problems. Shopify creates duplicate product URLs through collections, limits URL structure, and relies on apps that add code. WordPress sites often suffer from bloated themes, conflicting SEO plugins, thin tag and category archives, and poor indexing settings.

On Shopify, the biggest issue is duplicate product pages. When a product sits in a collection, Shopify also shows it at /collections/shoes/products/red-sneaker, a second copy of /products/red-sneaker. Themes add a canonical tag, but many still link to the long version, so Google crawls both and wastes time on copies. We change the theme so every product link points straight to /products/.

Shopify also makes thin pages on its own. Every tag filter on a collection (/collections/shoes/red) and every ?variant= link is a new URL with almost nothing new on it. We decide which of these Google should see, block the rest in robots.txt.liquid or with noindex, and write real copy for the collection pages that should rank. Shopify's fixed URL folders (/products/, /collections/, /pages/) cannot be changed, so when you move from another platform we set up 301 redirects for every old URL.

We fix the platform issues first: canonical tags and duplicate URLs, collection and category pages written to rank, product and article structured data, image alt text, internal linking, redirects for old URLs, and a clean sitemap. Many Shopify themes send Google only part of the product details, so we add brand, GTIN, price, stock, reviews (where you have them), shipping and returns to the product structured data. Then we improve the content that sells: product descriptions, collection copy, and buying guides.

Speed is part of the job, because both platforms slow down as apps and plugins pile up. On Shopify, apps you removed often leave their code in the theme, and it still loads on every page; we find it and take it out. On WordPress, we cut plugin and theme bloat and set up caching.
